Will floating in the pool on an inflatable chair, trees behind him

Film · 2026

Two hours on. Two hours off.

A Saturday that kept breaking: a desk, a camera, a sore hand, a headache. So Will and Laura stopped rescuing the plan and made a trade instead. One of them carries the house for two hours while the other gets two hours back. Then they swap.

01 · The span

Fixing things, then making something.

Eight frames in film order, with the film time under each. The day starts at the desk with a plan and ends after midnight on a couch, editing.

02 · The friction

Nothing broke big. Everything broke a little.

In the film he says it plainly: “Nothing was really wrong. There was just always one more reason not to stop.”

03 · The trade

Take a turn. Give a turn.

The idea the film is named for, laid out as the day ran: amber for the turns spent carrying the house, blue for the turns spent on yourself.

04 · His turn

The pool, after everyone left it.

Will gets to the water late, alone, in the last of the light. It is not the family afternoon he pictured. It is quieter than that, and the film lets it play.

05 · The night

It ends with the camera.

A haircut in the mirror with the camera in his other hand, a made bed in lamp light, and then a title card: Sunday, 4:56 AM. The last turn goes to the work he loves.

07 · The cut

97 shots in 9:14.

Every bar below is one shot, as wide as it runs on screen. Short, busy shots for the broken morning; one long stretch in the pool where the cutting stops.

Each bar is one shot, in film order; the median shot runs 2.8 seconds

Counted with scene detection (ffmpeg, a cut wherever the scene score passes 0.35) on the V5 master (Taking Turns V5.mov). Soft dissolves and quick flashes can read differently, so treat it as a close count, not an exact one.
