The project
What the work needed to do.
The communication problem
A craft that looks like magic on camera is hard to sell in a still photograph. Marbling only makes sense in motion, when the colour is floating and then lifted onto paper, and a studio selling scarves and classes needs a viewer to understand what they would actually be buying or learning.
The design approach
Twenty one minutes shot across a single working day, in her studio and on the trail where she finds her colour references. The film keeps the process intact rather than cutting to highlights: the tray, the paints, the lift, the drying, the ironing that nobody sees. It carries her account of a thirty two year practice and of pausing a career and returning to it, told while she works rather than to camera in a chair.
